About

Have you been asked in an interview: “Tell me about yourself”? Was that a deer-in-the-headlights moment for you?

If it was, phew! You now know how I feel writing an About Me section.

I mean, seriously! Do you really want to know that I have a cat named Sneakers, or that I own 4 spinning wheels to spin yarn? Or that I moved from a large urban center to a country property in 2021 and have never looked back? I must admit it makes it easier to record my narrations when I’m no longer under a flight path with planes going overhead every 3 minutes. Living in the country is SOOOO peaceful…and I have great Internet.

In this business you must be tenacious and, after four plus years, I’m still here.  I started my voice over work with audiobooks and expanded to eLearning, instructional, corporate and explainer videos, dubbing (in French and English), and medical narrations.

What I bring to the table is a wildly diverse career and education.  I love Marie Forleo’s description of “multi-passionate”.

I started off as a secretary. Went to school and worked as a professional cook, chef, and restaurant manager. That lifestyle wears you out and is hard on relationships.  You work long hours, and every weekend, AND every holiday. This came to a head when I realized that I never saw my boyfriend (now husband) and we lived together! I would see him sleeping when I came home from work, and he would see me sleeping as he got up to go to work. Our schedules didn’t match up. Crazy!

Took on a regular day job, got married, had a baby girl, went back to school. This time in Information Technology (IT). Over 15 years, I worked as an instructor and technical trainer then manager in this field.

After I was downsized, I became an entrepreneur. I tried my hand at a few things, learned a lot of new software programs, how to network with people, how to negotiate and most of all how to provide quality service.

It took a while, but I finally found what I love to do, by accident…literally. I was in a car accident that severely limited my mobility. While I recovered, I discovered the world of voice over and was completely hooked.

My work ethic is to provide the best quality that includes the right tone, pace, editing and mastering (making sure everything sounds great!) to bring your eLearning, product description, service, medical text, to life because the last thing you want is to have someone stop listening to your presentation (in whatever form) and have them start looking at their phone, ignoring your message.

Why voice over? No matter which project I work on, there is always something to learn.  I am a lifelong learner. I thrive on new discoveries both big (existence of black holes) and small (using baking soda to make beef brown better).

The point is to keep the listener engaged and entertained. That’s what I do. I want to know more about your project so let’s chat.  You can reach me at lorraine@lorrainecrowston.com

Let me give voice to your project.

What People Say

“Great Professional”

It was easy to work and communicate with Lorraine. She understood all my needs and did an impeccable job. There are so many narrators on different platforms, but Lorraine has been the best to date. She has so many strengths apart from her wonderful voice. Her professionalism, punctuality in deadlines, audio quality and perfect narration were a pleasant experience for both me and the listener. She is an exquisite person as well as being a great professional. What can I say I will always be happy to work with her in the future.”

“Excellent Narrations”

Collaborating with Lorraine is fantastic, her narrations are excellent, both for the quality of the audio (clean and clear recording) and for the emotional involvement. She is always available and always replies quickly to my emails, what I want from a perfect partner for my business. Thanks Lorraine!

“Trustworthy Narrator”

I had a great experience working with Lorraine! The audiobook that she narrated for me wasn’t easy due to specific terms and sentences. Still, Lorraine was very professional and collaborative: she overcame all these difficulties and produced a fluent narration that helped both the user experience and the sales! I highly suggest Lorraine to anyone who is looking for a trustworthy narrator.
